Pharmacological properties :

Antibacterial drug of wide spectrum of action.

Sarafloxacin is an antibiotic of the group of fluoroquinolones of the second generation, the mechanism of action of which is caused by inhibition of DNA girazes activity (type II topoisomerase in Gram-negative bacteria and type IV topoisomerase in individual Gram-positive bacteria), which provide DNA replication in the nuclei of microbial cells and their further division, as a result of which the microorganisms do not multiply.

It acts against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including those resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics, tetracyclines, macrolides and aminoglycosides: E. coli, Salmonella spp, Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Mycoplasma spp., Campylobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Bordetella spp., Clostridium spp., Yersinia spp., Pseudomonas spp., Enterobacter spp., Ornithobacterium spp. and others.

Sarafloxacin is one of the main treatment programs for poultry in colibacillosis and salmonellosis. It is twice as active against Gram-positive microorganisms and four times more active against Gram-negative microorganisms than Norfloxacin, and more active against anaerobes than ciprofloxacin.

It is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. Bioavailability in broilers for oral use is 59.6 ± 13.8%. The maximum concentration in blood is reached in 1.5-3 hours after application. Half-life period in broilers is 3.89 ± 1.19 hours. In the liver of poultry Sarafloxacin is metabolized to sulfamine and glucoronide compounds in small amounts. Biological half-life is 30.13 hours. It is mainly excreted with feces and urine in unchanged form.

Indications :

Treatment of poultry (chickens, broilers, young chickens, turkeys) for colibacillosis, salmonellosis, necrotic enteritis, septicemia, staphylococcosis, streptococcosis, mycoplasmosis, hemophilosis, pasteurellosis, secondary bacterial infections in viral diseases, as well as respiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to sarafloxacin.
