Megestrol acetate – 5mg
Pharmacological properties:
Megestrol acetate – synthetic progestogen, affects the hypothalamic-pituitary system of the animal and blocks the release of gonadotropic hormones (follicle stimulating and luteinizing). In the absence of these hormones in the blood delayed the maturation of follicles in the ovaries of females, and in males blocked the synthesis of testosterone, resulting in stopping the flow and sexual desire in animals. In male dogs and cats, the drug reduces sexual activity and related behaviour.
The mechanism of action of acetate megestrol has two main directions of action on the body: antigonadotropic activity is manifested in the suppression of secretion of gonadotropic hormones and delay of ovulation, which is clinically a consequence of delayed flow; progestogen action is a direct effect on the uterine endometrium, which activates the secretory phase, slows down the implantation of the embryo, enhancing the contraceptive properties of the drug.
Application:
Oral for dogs and cats to prevent or stop leaks in cats and bitches, to prevent unwanted pregnancies in cats and bitches, and to suppress sexual desire in cats and dogs.
Dosage:
Oral with feed or forced directly to the root of the tongue
Female cats:
– to prevent a leak – 1 tablet for 10-14 days. After the drug is cancelled, a leak occurs in 14 days;
– to stop the leak – 1 tablet daily for 3-5 days (from the moment of signs of sexual excitation);
– as a contraceptive – 3 pills during the day after mating;
male cats:
– To calm down in case of sexual excitement – 1 pill daily for 3-5 days;
To bitches dogs:
– to prevent a leak – 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight once in 14 days. After the drug is cancelled, a leak occurs 21 days later;
– to stop the leak – 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight within 7 days (from the moment of signs of sexual excitement);
– as a contraceptive – 2 pills per 5 kg of body weight daily for 2 days after mating;
For dogs:
– to calm down in case of sexual agitation – 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight daily for 5 days after mating; cats: to calm down in case of sexual agitation – 1 tablet daily for 5 days.
Contraindications:
Do not use in diseases of the genitourinary system, tumors, immature, pregnant and nursing animals. It is not recommended to use the drug if more than 3 days have passed after the leak, and young animals in the first leak due to difficulties in determining the beginning of the cycle.
Cautions:
If the drug is used for a long time, it is possible to change the character, develop mammary glands, increase appetite and the associated increase in body weight of the animal.

Storage:
