Description

Composition:

active substances :

Cabergoline – 50 mg/ml

Application:

A drug to suppress lactation and eliminate the symptoms of false pups in small-breed dogs and cats.
Cessation of lactation in the short term.
Prevents the development of lactational mastitis.

Pharmacological properties :

Cabergoline is a derivative of ergoline (ergot alkaloid) that has a stimulating effect on dopamine receptors of hypothalamic-pituitary system involved in the secretion of the main hormone of lactogenesis, prolactin, and has an inhibitory effect on its secretion. Apart from its influence on prolactin-dependent processes, cabergoline has no effect on other endocrine processes.

Its use prevents lactation, enlargement of mammary glands and development of lactational mastitis. Decrease of prolactin level contributes to quick disappearance of signs of false pregnancy, as well as changes in the behavior of the animal. When used concomitantly with dopamine receptor blockers, the effectiveness of galastop decreases.

Doses and method of administration :

The drug is administered orally along with food or forcefully on the tongue at a dose of 0.1 ml (3 drops) per 2.2 lb (1 kg)/animal weight for 4 – 6 days.

If there is no effect or symptoms of false pups after discontinuation of the drug the course may be repeated.

Side effects :

Very rarely in some animals during the first two days of treatment a one-time vomiting, lack of appetite or drowsiness may be observed, which does not require cancellation of the drug.

Contraindications :

Use in pregnancy is prohibited because of increased likelihood of abortion. It is not recommended to use in animals with hypotension or simultaneously with hypotensive drugs or in animals under the influence of anesthetic drugs, as well as after surgical operations because of possible intensification of the hypotensive effect of the drug.

Special instructions :

In case of overdose, supportive symptomatic therapy directed to suppress vomiting and restore blood pressure is carried out. Metoclopramide is used as an antidote

Storage conditions :

In a dry, sun-protected place at 40-77 F (5 – 25 ºC).

Shelf life – 3 years.

Shelf life after opening the bottle – 28 days.
