pigs: gastrointestinal nematodes: Ascaris suum, Strongyloides ransomi, Oesophagostomum spp.
For therapeutic and preventive purposes:
– cattle, sheep and goats – in case of dictiocaullosis, hemonchosis, bunostomosis, esophagogastomosis, nematodirosis, ostertaxis, haberthyosis, co-operiosis and strongyloidosis;
– pigs – in ascariasis, esophagogastomosis, strongyloidosis, trichocephalosis, chiostrongylosis and metastrongylesis.
Pharmacological property :
Levamisole hydrochloride, which is part of the preparation, belongs to the antihelminthic agents of imidazole group and has a wide range of nematodocidal action.
It is active against larval and semi-mature phases of GIT and lung nematode development, including Haemonchus spp., Ostertagia spp., Trichostrongylus spp., Cooperia spp., Dictyocaulus spp., Protostrondylus spp, Nematodirus spp., Bunostomum spp., Oesphagostomum spp., Chabertia spp. parasitizing in ruminants; Ascaris suum, Strongyloides ransomi, Metastrongyius spp., Oesphagostomum spp. parasitizing in pigs.
The mechanism of action of levamisole is to influence the neuromuscular system and oppress the activity of fumaratreductase enzyme, which causes paralysis of the parasite and leads to its death.
After parenteral administration of the drug, levamisole hydrochloride is quickly resorbed from the injection site and distributed in animal organs and tissues, reaching its maximum concentration in serum in 30-50 minutes, and remains at the therapeutic level for 6-9 hours after injection.
It is excreted from the body within 3-4 days mainly in unchanged form with urine and partially with faeces, and in lactating animals also with milk.
The drug is applied once subcutaneously or intramuscularly in doses:
To cattle 0,75 ml on 22lb (10 kg) body weight.
Maximum dose is 22.5 ml per animal weighing more than 660 lb (300 kg);
sheep, goats 0.75 ml per 22 lb (10 kg) body weight.
Maximum dose is 4.5 ml per animal weighing more than 143 lb (65 kg);
Pigs 0.75 ml per 22lb (10 kg) body weight.
Animals with a body weight greater than 330 lb (150 kg) should receive a recommended dose of 3.5 ml for every 110 lb (50 kg).
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
