PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

A complex preparation that contains colistin and oxytetracycline.

Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic of the tetracycline group, which is synthesized by Streptomyces rimosus. Its mechanism of action consists in inhibiting the synthesis of proteins by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of microorganisms sensitive to the preparation, thereby preventing compounds of ribosomes with aminoacyl transport RNA. Oxytetracycline has a wide spectrum of action on gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp., Brucella spp.., Haemophilus spp., E. coli, Pasteurella spp., Klebsiellaspp., Erysipelothrix spp., Fusobacterium spp., Salmonella spp., as well as on protozoa spp., mycoplasmaspp., rickettsia spp. and chlamydia spp.

Colistin is an antibiotic of a group of polymixins synthesized by the aerobic spore-forming bacillus polymyxa stick. It acts bactericidally on Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Salmonellaspp., Pasteurella spp., Haemophilus spp., Bordetella spp.).

Coli sulfate binds with phospholipids of cytoplasmic membrane, increases its permeability for both intra- and extracellular components, which leads to destruction of bacterial cell.

After oral administration, approximately 58% of the oxytetracycline is absorbed from the digestive canal, binding the antibiotic to plasma proteins is 35%. Oxytetracycline is distributed in many body fluids and has the property of accumulating in the spleen, bones, liver, teeth and tumours.

The highest level of oxytetracycline is noted in the lungs, liver, bile and reproductive organs. It is metabolized in small amounts in the liver. Oxytetracycline is excreted from the body with urine and bile, in lactating animals – with milk.

Colistin is practically not absorbed from the digestive tract, is not influenced by digestive enzymes and, as a result, a high concentration of antibiotics in the intestines is created. Colistin does not accumulate in organs and tissues, from the body of the animal is mainly withdrawn in its unchanged form with faeces.

APPLICATION

Treatment of pigs, poultry (broilers, young poultry, turkeys) and calves (aged up to 3 months) with diseases of the digestive tract and respiratory organs caused by microorganisms sensitive to colistin and oxytetracycline.

DOSAGE

Oral.
Calves (aged up to 3 months) – with drinking water in a dose of 0.5 grams of the drug at 22lb (10 kg) body weight 2 times a day for 5-7 days.

Pigs, poultry (chickens broilers and repair youngsters, turkeys) – in a dose of 100 grams of the preparation for 100-200 liters of drinking water, or 100 grams of the preparation for 110-220lb (50-100 kg) of feed for 5-7 days.

During treatment, poultry and pigs should receive only water containing the drug.

The treatment solution is prepared daily in a volume designed for consumption during the day.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use animals with hypersensitivity to oxytetracycline and colistine.

Do not use in animals with impaired kidney and liver function.

Do not use simultaneously with preparations containing two- and three-valent cations such as Mg2+, Al3+, Ca2+, Zn2+, Bi2+, Fe3+, the latter may bind to oxytetracycline and prevent its absorption.

Do not use simultaneously with antibiotics having bactericidal action, such as penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides.

Do not use chicken laying eggs intended for human consumption, as well as ruminants with functionally developed stomachs.

CAUTIONS

Every day they prepare a fresh solution of the drug.

Carefully use the drug during pregnancy and lactation of animals (for life indications).

Pre-test the drug on a small group (7-8 heads) of animals. If there are no complications within 2-3 days, the drug is used in the entire population.

It is allowed to slaughter animals for meat in 10 days (pigs, calves) and 7 days (poultry) after the last application of the preparation. The meat received before the specified period of time is disposed of or fed to non-productive animals, depending on the conclusion of the veterinary medicine doctor.
