Composition
1 ml of the preparation contains
the active ingredient:
Oxytocin – 10 IU.
Pharmacological properties:
Oxytocin is a hypothalamic hormone consisting of a pentapeptide cycle and a side chain of three amino acid residues, which accumulates in the posterior pituitary fraction of the pituitary gland. It increases the permeability of sodium to uterine myofibrils, stimulating its contraction. The threshold of uterine oxytocin-induced contractions of the uterus decreases during pregnancy, at high estrogen levels, or if the animal has already begun childbirth.
Oxytocin decomposes in the gastrointestinal tract, so it should be administered parenterally. After administration of the drug is observed after 3-5 minutes.
Application:
The drug is used for females of domestic and farm animals (cows, mares, sheep, goats, sows, bitches, cats) to stimulate or strengthen uterine contractions during childbirth (in case of uterine hypotension and atony), to treat postpartum postpartum postpartum retardation, as part of comprehensive metrite therapy, to accelerate uterine involution after childbirth, as well as to stimulate milk yield in agalactia; for uterine bleeding; to free mammary glands from milk or inflammatory exudate in the treatment of mastitis.
Dosage:
The drug is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously once in doses:
cows, horses – 3-6 ml (30-60 units) per head;
Sheep, goats – 1-1.5 ml (10-15 units) per head;
Sows – 2-3 ml (20-30 units) per head;
dogs – 0.5-1 ml (5-10 units) per head;
cats – 0,2-0,3 ml (2-3 units) per head.
If it is necessary to react more quickly, it is possible to inject glucose together with the solution of glucose. The dose of oxytocin is reduced by 30%.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to oxytocin.
Oxytocin is contraindicated in animals with a discoordinated labor activity that occurs against the background of improper placement of the fetus. If oxytocin is administered before delivery, cervical relaxation should be waited for in the usual way or estrogen should be administered before delivery.
Cautions:
Do not use with analogue drugs.
Do not use with a weakly opened cervix or incorrect position of the fetus.
Intravenously use the drug only if necessary and administer it extremely slowly!
Apply the preparation with caution (especially when administered intravenously) to animals with cardiovascular system pathology due to its possible effect on it (decrease in blood pressure), as well as to animals with kidney pathology (due to the antidiuretic effect of the preparation).
Storage
Dry, dark place or refrigerator at temperature from 37-53F (3 °С to 12 °С).
